Sania Mirza -Elena in quarters, Bhupathi out

Sania on Sunday complete her first-ever French Open doubles quarters with Elena but Bhuapthi's diverse doubles movement ended after a second-round loss. Seventh kernel Sania and Elena quelled a late confront from 11th seed Spanish duo of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-1 6-4 in the third round.

The Indo-Russian pair now has a tough task at hand as they face top seeds Gisela Dulko of Argentina and Flavia Pennetta of Italy. This is Sania's best doubles performance at Grand Slams since 2008, when she had reached the last-eight stages at Wimbledon with American associate Bethanie Mattek.

This is also only third time in Sania's vocation that she has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam. The first time she made the grade was in 2007 at US Open with Mattek. On Sunday, Sania-Elena saved 10 breakpoints from 12 and converted five of 10 in the one hour 26 minutes clash.

Bhupathi-Zheng ousted

Elsewhere, Mahesh Bhupathi's campaign at the French Open ended too on Sunday with a second-round defeat in the varied doubles event along with Chinese partner Jie Zheng. The fifth seed Indo-Chinese pair lost 6-4, 3-6, 7-10 to unseeded duo of Rennae Stubbs of Australia and Brazil's Marcelo Melo.

Bhupathi has by now exited from the men's doubles along with fellow citizen Leander Paes.India's hopes in the mixed doubles are still alive as Paes and his partner Iveta Benesova have reach the quarter-finals, where they are set to clash with top-seeded pair of Katarina Srebotnik of Slovakia and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia.
