NFL: Michael Vick bounces back for Eagles

Posted by Admin On 10:03 AM

Michael Vick bounced back from a careless performance last week to help the Philadelphia Eagles to a 24-14 pre-season win over Cleveland. Vick was way below his best during last week's loss against Pittsburgh, but he led three scoring drives as the Eagles beat the Browns despite neither the quarterback nor the high-profile team looking like the Super Bowl contender many have made them out to be.
Vick connected on 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards and was a little brighter on his feet with 24 yards rushing and a touchdown. After last week, I still felt self-assurance in myself and my teammates and our ability to attain amazing,Vick said. I know what I did, trying to force things. It's about touching forward, and getting better each week.
Back-up quarterback Vince Young, one of Philadelphia's high-profile free agent signings, threw a 10-yard land and finished nine of 12 for 58 yards as he made his first major crash since joining from Tennessee.
Carolina used the first pick of the draft on Cam Newton, but Cincinnati's own rookie quarterback Andy Dalton outshine him as the Bengals ran out 24-13 winners over the Panthers. Former Texas Christian triggerman Dalton was steady and assured as he led four scoring drives and threw for 130 yards and a touchdown in his first half look - although he was help out by a strong ground game.
The Bengals looked back to their strong-running best as Cedric Benson ran for 68 yards and Bernard Scott 63 and both found the end zone as they opened up space for Dalton to throw. We came out organization the ball well, said Dalton. We had some miscues we require to fix, but we were able to bounce back. The way we were organization the ball, they had to stack the box, and we were able to take advantage.
Newton finished with just 75 yards passing, although he did show a glimpse of his running ability with a 16-yard arrive scamper that at least gave Panthers fans hope of better to come during the season.
The Baltimore Ravens grabbed a late TD from Brandon Jones to edge out local rivals Washington 34-31 as the rivalry for the Redskins quarterback job continued to be a closely fought contest.
Coach Mike Shanahan might leave it right up until the last minute to pick a starter for the season; with John Beck and Rex Grossman both looking decent options and both putting in likewise steady performance.
Grossman started and threw for 112 yards and a TD, while he alternated with Beck who accumulate 108 yards and a score, but did throw an interception in the only sour note of his display.
