Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been balanced for one game for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Harrison was penalized for roughing the passer during the contest last Thursday night but the NFL has decided to ban him for a game because of previous indiscretion.
The 33-year-old has fallen foul of the NFL's drive to defend defenseless players on several occasions, being fined a total of $125,000 last year for illegal hits. And he has now developed into the first player to be balanced for a helmet-to-helmet hit, but has three days to appeal the ban.
Harrison, a two-time Super Bowl and previous defensive player of the year, has also been prevented from training with the team until his ban is finished. He is set to miss his side's clash with the San Francisco 49ers next Monday, a game in which the Steelers can clinch a play-off berth with a success.
