Captain Yuvraj Singh welcomes Sourav Ganguly's inclusion in the Pune Warriors squad, but lined him out for an IPL 4 debut against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. He's skilled and I will get help in captaining the team,Pune skipper told the media on Tuesday, the eve of their match against MI.

Sourav, who was on Tuesday selected as Ashish Nehra's replacement subsequent an injury to the left-arm seamer, has still, been ruled out of Wednesday's tie. The southpaw from Bengal had backed Pune skipper to the hilt as India skipper and for the Punjab lad, its reimbursement time now.

I share a very good relationship with Ganguly. He was a big hold for me when I started playing cricket, so I consideration stand to play the role vice versa. Guys like Laxman and Dravid are still playing good cricket and so I thought he too merit a chance,Pune skipper said.

While Pune skipper is happy with Sourav addition, query remains over his fitness. We have to see first if he is fit to play. He has not played for a long while. He has not played much cricket, so he needs to come in and show his fitness test. If he's fit, we will absolutely pick him,Pune skipper said.

Picking a batsman for a wounded bowler does sound a bit surprising but Pune skipper said Sourav was picked as they needed skill in batting. We always looked for an option, the best option. It was the franchisee's idea because we were waiting for Nehra recovery. He cannot be fit till the IPL finishes.

Looking at the batting, we thought we needed someone with skill; that's why we got Ganguly. But he would not play on Wednesday. He's not in the running, the Pune skipper said, who made his international debut under Sourav.

Our concern was what the best choice for Ashish Nehra was. We have a lot of bowlers but we needed someone skilled in the batting line-up who is an also Indian and who will not hamper a foreigner playing. That's why we went for Ganguly,he elaborated.

Sourav went unsold in the players' auctions held in January, after he raised his base price from USD 200,000 to 400,000.Yuvraj is also hoping to see Graeme Smith on the field at the earliest.Expectantly, once Smith also becomes fit, our team will become stronger. Graeme is good; he's much better now. We will assess his fitness on Wednesday,Yuvraj said.
