Andy Roddick race through in Carolina

Top seed Andy Roddick eased into the quarter-finals of the Winston-Salem Open with a straight-sets victory over Santiago Giraldo. The 28-year-old give out five aces while his Colombian adversary ineffective to force a single break point as Roddick cruised through 6-1 6-3 in just one hour and six minutes.
For Roddick, this week's tournament at Wake Forest University is proving to be optimistic training for next week's US Open. Third seed Alexandr Dolgopolov saved one match point as he edged Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 1-6 7-6(9/7).
The Ukrainian won six points fewer than his Bulgarian adversary and trailed in the tie-break - saving match point on his second serve - before existing in two hours and 12 minutes. Next up for the 22-year-old is 10th-seeded Dutchman Robin Haase, who ended Canadian lucky loser Pierre-Ludovic Duclos' campaign with a 6-4, 7-5 win in one hour and 53 minutes.
However, fifth seed Nikolay Davydenko went down 6-4 6-4 to Sergiy Stakhovsky, the Ukrainian winning in 77 minutes. His victory earned Stakhovsky a match against French qualifier who beaten Igor Andreev 2-6 6-1 7-6 (7/5).
There were also victories for Juan Monaco and Marcos Baghdatis, seeded seventh and eighth respectively. Fourth seed and home favorite John Isner motorized into the quarter-finals with a 7-6(7/4) 6-2 triumph over 13th seed Jarkko Nieminen.
The American lost only seven points on serve as he fired 10 aces, and broke Nieminen's serve twice in the subsequent set to claim victory in 64 minutes. Isner said:It took me a while to get used to how he was playing. From 4-4 in the tie-break, that's when I really kicked up.
