Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov was a surprise victim in the first round of the Moselle Open in Metz when he was humble in straight sets by Dutch qualifier Igor Sijsling. The world number 148, ranked 84 places beneath Dimitrov in the world rankings, held serve all from side to side and needed a mere 53 notes to polish off his opponent 6-2 6-2.
Sixth seed Xavier Malisse was the only seed in action on Tuesday and he had to dig deep to see off Germany's Michael Berrer 6-4 3-6 6-4 and book his place in the second round. Olivier Rochus and Nicolas Mahut advanced with wins over Stephane Robert and Diego Junqueira respectively, while there were also wins for French trio Benoit Paire, Mathieu Rodrigues and Nicolas Renavand.
