The highlight came in the fourth quarter with the Patriots already leading 31-17, when Brady connected with Wes Welker on a first-down throw from the one-yard line. Welker caught the pass in stride and sprint clear to the end zone for a 99-yard touchdown and the longest play in franchise history.
In Monday's other game, the Oakland Raiders held on for a 23-20 victory away to the Denver Broncos in a game littered with penalty. Oakland was punishing 15 times and the home side 10, while Darren McFadden hurried for 150 yards for the Raiders on 22 carries.
Sebastian Janikowski kick three field goals for the visitors, including one from 63 yards late in the second quarter, while quarter-back Jason Campbell threw for one arrive and rushed for another. Broncos quarter-back Kyle Orton threw for 304 yards with one land and one interception.
