The Detroit Tigers kept their World Series expect alive as they beat the Texas Rangers 7-5 in the American League championship series. Victory saw the Tigers cut the Rangers' lead to 3-2 on a night when a win for the away team would have tenable them the best-of-seven series and broken Detroit's season.
Justin Verlander was in stingy mood despite Nelson Cruz hitting his fifth home run of the series. Also key to the Tigers' win was Delmon Young - who hit two of his side's four homers - and Miguel Cabrera, who shaped a tie-breaking double in the sixth.
The sides now take a night off ahead of game six on Saturday when they fight again with Texas looking to wrap up their sequence.
