David Warner: Virender Sehwag is my inspiration

Hard-hitting Australian opener, David Warner, has confessed that a one-to-one with Virender Sehwag motivated him to alter his game and push for a Test spot. There is a great probability that Warner will make the cut for the Test series against New Zealand at Brisbane, starting December 1, his debut Test, after beguiling all and sundry in the in turnout season for his State side, New South Wales, and Australia A.

Warner has been considered for the longest format of the game after he rocked in Twenty20 cricket that impressed the selectors to no end. Incidentally, he has played just 11 first-class matches.

However, Warner has his Delhi Daredevils' captain and fellow opener, Virender Sehwag, to thank for such a massive conversion. He said Viru is the resaon for inspiring him to push for higher grounds.

He revealed:When I went to Delhi, Sehwag watched me a couple of times and said to me,You'll be a better Test cricketer than a Twenty20 player.Warrner added:I fundamentally looked at him and said, Mate, I haven't even played a first-class game yet.

However, Sehwag said:All the fielders are around the bat. If the ball is there in your zone, you're still going to hit it. You're going to have ample opportunity to score runs. Warner is in awe of Sehwag’s career Test strike-rate of 82.12. The 25-year-old Aussie has nothing for him, but admiration.

Sehwag forever says that the more balls that you see, you're going to be tempt to try and score runs, but you've just got to keep in the back of your mind what your zones are,he said.If it's in his zone, he backs himself. He's a great player that I've looked up to in the last couple of years, especially when I've been preparation with him and seeing how he goes about his stuff. He's always got this spotlight about scoring runs. When he opens, it could be 0 for 100 or 0 for 150 at lunch, “Warner added.

Incidentally, Warner smashed a quick-fire 65 against the touring New Zealanders in Brisbane this week and, having been Australia's reserve batsman on each of their last two tours to Sri Lanka and South Africa, is ready for a Test debut.
