The Bahrainis, who clinch four medals on the first day of athletics last Thursday, put on a great show on the seventh day of the games at the Aspire Zone of Khalifa Stadium to claim two gold, one silver and two bronze.
Winning Bahrain's gold medals were Lishan Dula and Mahboob Hassan in the women's half marathon and men's 10,000m final, respectively. Bahrain dominated the women's half marathon, securing a 1-2 finish. Twenty-four-year-old long-distance runner Dula was leading, crossing the finish line in one hour, 14 minutes and 18 seconds.
She finished the half-marathon ahead of another Bahraini, Kareema Jassim (1:14:31), who took the silver, while Morocco's Samira Raif (1:14:35) won the bronze medal. Ait Salem-Mahour (1:15:13) came fourth.
Khalid Yaseen, aged 29, then gave Bahrain their second medal of the day by coming second overall in the men's half marathon. He finished the event in one hour, four minutes and 31 seconds. Rachid Kisri of Morocco took the gold medal in 1:04:03, while Wissam Hosni (1:04:37) of Tunisia settled for the bronze.
Mahboob, meanwhile, was at peak form in the men's 10,000m final, beating the confront of seven other athletes and racing to victory in 28 minutes and 39.88 seconds. He was followed by Djibouti's Mumin Gala (28:43.32), who picked up the silver, beating Bahrain's other runner Bilisuma Gelasa (28:44.89) who was just five seconds behind as he rounded off the podium.
Bahrain was also in action in the women's shot put final where Basma Mohammed settled for sixth among seven contestants. Her best result after four attempts was 10.01 metres. The Egyptians embossed authority in this event, winning both the gold and silver through Walaa ldakak (14.92m) and Fadya Elkasaby (14.67) who were correspondingly first and second, followed by Sihem Marrakchi (14.27) of Tunisia.
