He is the ninth man to reach this milestone, joining with Andre Agassi (101 weeks), Rafael Nadal (102), Bjorn Borg (109), John McEnroe (170), Jimmy Connors (268), Ivan Lendl (270), Pete Sampras (286) and Roger Federer (302).
Novak Djokovic reached No. 1 in July 2011 and he lost the top spot to Roger Federer for three months in 2012 but regained it in November of that year.
“I was taught to dream big and to dream to be number one in the world,” he said. It takes years of hard work and dedication to become a champion, he added.
However, he is predicted not to top of the year-end rankings because Rafael Nadal has returned strong from his injury this year and has no points to defend for the remainder of 2013.
