Sri Lanka Cricket on Tuesday confirmed they had discarded an offer to tour Pakistan due to security concerns. Pakistan has not hosted international cricket within its own borders since an attack on Sri Lanka's team bus in Lahore left seven players and a helper coach upset in 2009.

Six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed in the attack, which occur when gunmen ambushed the bus and opened fire. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had hoped to wheedle Sri Lanka back for a tour in October, propose a series comprise of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 match.

However, an attack at a Karachi naval base on Sunday has confident the SLC to put the safety of its players first, deciding to knock back the request in spite of the PCB's pledge of safety. We have declined to tour Pakistan,an SLC speaker said.We are worried about the safety and that's why we said no to them.

Since the 2009 attack, Pakistan have been forced to play their home series in neutral country, counting the United Arab Emirates, England and New Zealand, with no cricketing state willing to tour the nervous country.
